Clean Up in 2019

Cracking retirement Clean up in 2019

Clean Up? What do you mean by that?

Clean up your life, or maybe clean out your life? Clean up against your competitors? Take it to be whatever you think is right for you.

Over the last few months I have read this book several times – The Power of your Subconscious Mind, by Joseph Murphy (No affiliate links, just the amazon link and no, I don’t get any payback!) I found a kindle version for 49p. ( I should say that Amazon drives me mad, one day you get a link for 49p, the next day it is £2.99. So when I looked again for the kindle version of this the cheapest I could find without doing Kindle Unlimited was £10.99, but fortunately my original search result was still there!

Joseph Murphy was a church minister, writing in the 1940’s – 1970’s, so it is peppered with ‘as a man’ type statements, (women obviously didn’t exist then, in their own right!) and there are many christian links, mainly to the New Testament, however if you are non-male, non-christian, hindu, muslim, atheist etc, just read past the christian/male statements and get to the core of the book, which is ‘You are What you think you are’. Think good thoughts, you get more good in your life, think negative thoughts, and you get more of that. Effectively the message is that your subconscious acts on the thoughts your conscious mind has. So think more problems with debt, get more problems with debt. Spend some time both night and morning, thinking and re-affirming what you really want out of your life. (e.g. I am in perfect health, pain-free)

Get rid of those destructive habits. Mr Murphy recommends, affirming several times a day ‘ I am completely free of habit x, Harmony and peace of mind reign supreme’. Like any other self help books, it depends on your receptive state. So if you say the words and at the same time, think this is rubbish, well it sure isn’t going to work for you.

So back to 2019, I have been to several Jack Black, Mindstore courses over the years. Back in 1997 (the just about pre-internet ages, dial-up, no broadband) I went to one of Jack’s courses, did all the exercises, completed my workbook, and then I went home, real life intervened. I put the workbook in a cupboard and got on with life. Fast forward some years, I found the workbook again, I had completed all my 1,3,5 year tasks, almost without realising it. At the time when I wrote them, particularly my 5 year tasks were very challenging, including getting an MBA (while continuing to work full-time as a parent of 2 teenage sons…), doubling my salary etc… All I can say is that it all happened. Maybe I should have wished ‘bigger’, but then it all seemed big at the time!.

Which takes me to the purpose of this blog entry.

DREAM BIG

Really go for it. Don’t say I wish I had more money. As Jack says in his videos below you might get 10p (a dime). It is certainly more money, but not quite what you envisaged. Be precise. £20k, £20m your choice. A better family life? A whole new career. Whatever you really want…

Jack’s Videos

Jack puts out a series of 4 videos each year. These were online until January 21st 2019, so I have amended the next part of this post to remove the links, but for the purpose of completeness, I shall summarise what each one was about. Day 1 – Assess your Life, what’s good, what areas need help. what things are you grateful for?

Day 2 – Clean out your life, what things do you want to eliminate from your life?

Day 3  – use your imagination to create at least 30 goals in 11 minutes!. Yes, really…

And finally

Day 4 – compress those goals to just 7!

And to those regular readers of this retirement blog, no,  I am not doing this for some sort of reward, there are no affiliate links etc. But I really do believe in the process. Some would question why I am doing it, but being retired doesn’t mean you have parked your aspirations. I am 63, and if my mother is anything to go by, I have another 30 years ahead of me. That’s a long time to sit in front of the fire getting old!

If you’re interested, follow the links,. and if you’re not, that’s up to you!

I am not a walking advert for Jack Black, but I do think there is something in there, that will benefit me long term, just as I think there is something in the Power of your Subconscious. So go for it. have some stunning dreams for 2019. What’s the best that can happen – they will come true, and even more!

Although Jack’s goal setting videos have come down, you can still see his videos on Programming your Day / Life. Here is the link the first one

  1. I to have written out goals only to find them later and realize I met them all. It helps that none of them have dates on them. I annual set goals but don’t track them to ensure they get done. I think part of my process is that those that get done are the one I really wanted to complete.

    1. Hi Nancy, thanks for stopping by.

I’m not good with dates either! However I think, just by the act of writing them down, you’re telling your subconscious they are important!
